As part of its drive to
assist and render services to Brufut and surrounding
through funds raised from its annual marathon run, the
Brufut Marathon Committee has once again extended
its benevolent gesture to the Brufut community.
Having made it a
priority to support health and education, the
committee over the weekend handed over an amount of D5, 000 as fuel
coupons to facilitate the operation of an ambulance
donated to the clinic by friends of the community a few years
ago to complement government’s efforts in health
care delivery.
Ba Jabbi, chairman of
the Brufut Marathon Committee, said, “Looking at the
number of referrals at the clinic, we thought it is wise to
make the ambulance operational and help sustain its
maintenance and operation as one ambulance cannot do it alone”.
He
said the committee has not only given much support
to the clinic but succeeded in making the young
people of Brufut get more involved in health care
delivery.
In
the educational aspect, the BMRA boss said the
organisation has sponsored four students attending
Scan Aid Senior Secondary School and three from
Brufut Upper Basic School. “The Sponsorship covers
their entire schooling career. This is because we
want to make education assessable to all students
from the area,” he pointed out.
He said they are also working on sponsoring three
other cases.
Alhagie Sankareh, senior administrative officer of
the Regional Health Team at Western Region, who also
spoke at the handing over at the Brufut clinic, said
health is a very expensive commodity and should be
everyone’s business which is why government alone
cannot do it. This, he said, is why assistance is
needed in complementing government’s efforts.
“The problems encountered in referral systems will
soon become a thing of the past as government is
working very hard to curb this problem as one of its
objective is to ensure that health services reaches
higher heights,” he said.
He
pointed out that the Clinic will continue to work
with the young people of Brufut to ensure that their
aims are realised.
Pierre Njie, state registered nurse of the Brufut
Health Centre, said making the ambulance operational
will help ease problems encountered in terms of
referring patients to other hospitals.
Other organisations and individuals that contributed
and pledged to continuously support this initiative
included, Ajusco Family, Lucky Sisters, Brufut
Youths and Sports Committee, Alkalo of Brufut, Mary
Joof and Pa Boy making the total amount donated D7,
450.00.
